Nick McGinley is a freelance writer, voice over artist, performer, casting director and workshop leader based in Ireland.

Nick cast the Irish supporting roles for his UK colleague Shaheen Baig on God’s Creatures starring Paul Mescal and Emily Watson. Again for Shaheen Baig Casting, he did the local Irish and child casting centred around Newry on Cathy Brady’s feature Wildfire and cast all the Irish children on Shane Meadows’ CH4 drama series The Virtues.

Nick cast the voices, children and adults, on children’s TV animation series Ray of Sunshine for Daily Madness Productions and cast the voices on Nicky Phelan’s new pre-school TV animation series Lu & the Bally Bunch for Brown Bag Films now available to watch on Cartoonito UK, CBC in Canada and TVNZ+ in New Zealand.

He wrote and recorded a column on a relaxing kayak trip up the River Dee to see the Whitewood Lough Crannóg for RTE Radio’s Countrywide. A more comic column Henrick’s Aural Peacockery was broadcast for the same show. Tap on the column titles for the links.

Nick also cast two TV promos for Today with Claire Byrne and Drivetime (Dir: Ian Power) for Butter and RTE.

He wrote an all-family outdoor comedy – The Revolting Skirmish of Carlingford Tholsel, 1422 – commissioned by Carlingford Heritage Centre for the 2022 St. Patrick’s Festival.

Nick played the recurring part of drug dealer Ian MacLeod in the Dutch drama series Mocro Maffia broadcast on RTL, streaming on Amazon Prime and on Videoland in the Netherlands.

In 2020, Nick wrote and voiced his spoken word piece Hikikomori for Keywords on RTE Radio presented and produced by Zoë Comyns.

In 2019, he was in Donegal and Kerry looking for new Gogglebox Ireland families, and casting TV commercials for Horse Racing Ireland and TAM Ireland on behalf of director Ian Power.

Since 2006, Nick has worked as a casting director on Irish features (KissesDollhouseLife’s a BreezeLove Eternal) and he ran the Irish searches for unknowns on UK/US productions (Calm With Horses, War Horse’71The Guard).

In 2009, his comedy non-fiction book 100 Reasons to Vote Yes to Lisbon II (Trashface Books) reached number 8 in the Hodges Figgis chart.

Nick wrote and performed the award-winning comedy double act Hoarse Throat Soothers with Shane O’Neill in 2008. His radio play Mutual Trust Assurance was shortlisted for the 2006 PJ O’Connor award. He has had articles published in The Irish Times, The Sunday Business Post and Film Ireland and written for RTE Online. He has been a radio essayist for Spectrum and Frequencies on RTE Radio 1 and read his own fiction on RTE’s The Book Show.

He studied Drama at Trinity College Dublin and Film Production at Dublin Institute of Technology. Nick directed the MA Graduation short film Blind Mice, which was screened at the Galway Film Fleadh, Cork Film Festival, Foyle Film Festival and on RTE Television.

Nick also runs his Dramatic Storytelling Workshop for young people and adults, the last sessions completed for Geraldine’s School of Drama at the Táin Arts Centre and for the students of Scoil Realt na Mara in Dundalk in collaboration with Roe River Books.
